our goal is to raise $6,500 to purchase a fully compostable, envioronmentally friendly pad making machine. Here’s Why:

  • Over 320 million women in India do not have access to sanitary pads.

  • Menstruation is an extremely taboo topic. There is stigma and shame around periods and anything associated with pads.

  • Menstruation is taught as something to be ashamed of, dirty and impure. Women and girls are isolated during this week of the month and not allowed to be around men, in places or worship, nor around food.

  • Girls often miss a week of school every month and fall behind and eventually drop out for this reason.

  • Even if pads are available in stores, almost all stores are run by male shopkeepers.

  • Along with stigma, most of the communities we work with do not have access to hot water in order to properly clean cloth rags, bacteria causes untreated infections and UTI’s.

Along with education among our girls, women, their families, and the communities, the purchase of this pad making machine will enable us to make up to 1000 pads a day at a cost of around $100 USD a month. We will be able to gift our girls free pads each month, be a completely female driven point of sale location in the community, along with employing a few moms to be a part of this business.

$6,500 covers the cost of the machine, full on-site set up and training, shipping of the equipment, and the first months supply of materials.

Special thanks to RORECO for spearheading this initiative!
